In China (Kwan Yin) Kuan Yin is not only the goddess of Mercy and compassion,
she is also the Protectress of Children. She is usually shown with a
Lotus (purity and divine birth), holding a vase which contains the
nectar of her compassion. In India she is the male deity known as
Avelokitesvara, "The One Who Hears the Cries of the World"
This Porcelain Quan Yin 16" (one dragon) dispenses blessings in the
form of droplets of water that fall from her flask down into the
dragon's mouth. Use distilled water. She may be holding a Lotus branch, or there may be Lotus blossoms in the water surrounding the Dragon. When shown arising from water, the Lotus symbolizes the physical existence firmly established against the sea of possibility. Lotuses also represent purity and diving birth. This statue sill drip water from her flask into the Dragon's mouth. First pour enough water into the Dragon's mouth until it is nearly full. Then tip the statue onto her back, then completely upside down for a moment, and place her on a level surface. The water will gently drip into the Dragon's mouth until it has all run back into the bottom. To restart the water, tip the statue upside down again. |
