People who are in a hypnotic trance are asleep, zoned out, or

10.
It’s possible
for someone to get “stuck” in a trance and never come out.
11.
There are some people who just can’t be hypnotized.
Answers:
1.
False. It’s
been said that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.
You put yourself into trance or you don’t.
The hypnotherapist is merely there to guide you.
2.
False. During a
trance, part of your mind is always listening to every word being
said, making sure that you agree.
You automatically reject anything that doesn’t match your
belief system. What
about those stage show ballerinas?
Well, any person who’ll volunteer to get up on a stage, in
front of a live audience and a few television cameras, is bound to
be a “ham” who enjoys attention and doesn’t mind acting silly
to get a few laughs.
3.
False. Hypnosis
is not a truth serum.
4.
False. Generally,
a person in a hypnotic trance is more aware of his/her surroundings
than during normal waking consciousness.
During normal consciousness, we are constantly bombarded with
thousands of stimuli from the environment.
Hypnosis allows us to narrow our concentration down.
5.
False. If
you’ve ever experienced “highway hypnosis,” you know that you
can maintain complete control of your vehicle while in a trance.
If you’ve ever watched Tiger Woods or Mark McGwire play,
you’ve seen athletes using self-hypnosis for superior
performance… while maintaining muscle tension in all the right
places.
6.
False. 90% of
people remember between half and all of what was said during a
trance. About 10% of
people take themselves into “somnambulism,” or deep trance, and
recall less.
7.
False again. Most
of us naturally go into trance between 7 and 12 times per day, every
day.
8.
False. We’ve
already talked about highway hypnosis, famous athletes, and stage
show participants. It
is common for people in hypnosis to feel so comfortable that they
don’t want to move.
9.
False.
Generally, the more intelligent a person is, the better s/he
is at hypnosis.
10.
False.
There is no known case of anyone ever having gotten
“stuck” in a trance. The
brain naturally cycles from the slower brain waves of trance to the
faster ones of normal consciousness.
11.
True!
People who can’t be hypnotized include:
those with a profoundly low IQ; those under the influence of
drugs or alcohol (they’re already in an altered state because of
the chemicals); children under the age of 7; those who refuse to
follow instructions; and those who are afraid of hypnosis.
